The Society of Georgia Archivists

Posted by Admin On 3:29:00 PM 0 comments
The Society of Georgia Archivists (SGA) was established in 1969 to foster a community of archivists, librarians, historians, educators, and museum and historical agency personnel in the state of Georgia and the southeast. SGA fosters and supports the archival community by advocating for professionals, collections, and repositories; encouraging diversity in the field; promoting education and professional development; and advancing scholarly research and innovation through the publication of our journal, Provenance.

SGA is dedicated to creating opportunities for students to learn more about the field of archives by offering educational events, networking, and career development activities. Membership in SGA also provides a solid connection to information about current archival and historical trends and issues as well as opportunities to associate with and learn from leading individuals in the field.

Membership for full-time students is only $10 annually. Benefits of membership include discounted annual meeting and workshop fees, access to the SGA listserv and online job postings, SGA's Mentoring Program, as well as subscriptions to the SGA publications Provenance and the SGA Newsletter.

Hidden Georgia Tech Library Archives

Posted by Admin On 11:33:00 AM 0 comments
Across the Georgia Tech campus, hidden spaces and forgotten places await rediscovery. Some are relics of an earlier time, difficult to find and explore. Others are very much in view, but often overlooked. Hidden Georgia Tech is a photo-essay series highlighting places on campus that are hidden in plain sight.

Tech’s Library Archives and Records Management, currently located on the lower floor of Crosland Tower but moving to the Neely Room when the Library renewal is underway, is just what one would expect — stacks of research material on a wide variety of subjects in an ultra-quiet setting. What is surprising is the assortment of artifacts: from a Picasso vase to movie scripts and a couple of Oscars. Take a look inside.

Archival Access to the AJC

Posted by Admin On 4:14:00 PM 0 comments

The 2015 Beck Grant has provided the funding for access to the highly requested resources of the newly available archival subset of the Atlanta Constitution with full-text coverage from 1946 - 1984.  (These years were recently digitized and just became available for purchase in late 2015.) This adds to the previous access to the AJC from 1868-1945.

The resource may be accessed through the list of databases on the library website, and both provide browsing options as well as basic and advanced search capability.
