The Georgia Tech chapter of the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society induction ceremony is coming up in March. This is a great opportunity to join the larger community of historians, including other students and professors of history. The society has 860 local chapters and over 350,000 members. Benefits include the opportunity to network with other historians and present work at various different meetings. National dues for each new member consist of a one-time fee of $40 dollars for a lifetime membership.
The society is open to any student regardless of major. Undergraduate students must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours (4 courses) in History, achieve a minimum GPA of 3.1 in History and a GPA of 3.0 or better overall. A maximum of 3 credit hours of online, transfer, or AP credits may be applied to the membership eligibility requirement. If you are interested please contact the faculty advisor, Carla Gerona,

Induction Ceremony and Banquet: Johnny Smith will give the Keynote Address
This year’s induction ceremony will feature Johnny Smith as our key-note speaker. He will be talking about his new book The Sons of Westwood: John Wooden, UCLA, and the Dynasty that Changed College Basketball. The ceremony will take place on Thursday, March 6 at 6 PM. We will serve a light dinner for members, inductees, families, and friends. All HTS undergraduates and graduates are welcome to join us.
The Alpha-Kappa-Phi Chapter at Georgia Tech First established in 2003 the Alpha-Kappa-Phi-Chapter meets and elects officers who organize chapter meetings. In addition to the initiation ceremony this year’s Phi Alpha Theta officers hosted a Halloween Meet and Greet. Several chapter members also attended the 2013 Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference where they presented research papers on the Civil Rights Movement. Joining the Alpha-Kappa-Phi Chapter is an excellent way to share your interest in history and meet other historians, whether students, professors, or others interested in history.
2014 Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference for Georgia and Nearby Locations This year Phi Alpha Theta will hold the regional conference at Brenau University, Gainesville Campus, March 29, 2014. Phi Alpha Theta invites proposals for single papers or complete sessions on any history-related topics. The conference is open to both undergraduate and graduate students, and members and non-members. Registration for the conference is $20 in advance. This fee includes breakfast, lunch, the closing reception, and a guided tour of the work of renowned Black Mountain College artists such as John Cage, Robert Rauschenberg, or Jasper Johns, the father of Pop Art. This is a great opportunity to present your work beyond Georgia Tech and is especially helpful for those of you who are planning to go to graduate school or go into teaching.
