Applications Available for the Alvin M. Ferst Leadership & Entrepreneur Award

The Division of Student Affairs is pleased to announce the availability of The Alvin M. Ferst Leadership and Entrepreneur Award. This $2,500 award goes to a junior or senior with at least a 2.5 GPA who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership and/or entrepreneurial skills while at Tech.

The Alvin M. Ferst Leadership and Entrepreneur Award will be presented at the Student Honors Luncheon on April 16, 2015.
The ideal candidate would be:

A person of vision
A driving force to create a business or organization
An inspiration to others to reach their potential
A leader with the ability to anticipate future needs
An optimist about finding solutions
One who generates support of the dream
And a man or woman of character who says, “why not”, not “why”.

Fall 2013 Graduates

Graduates are invited to apply to be the Georgia Tech student Commencement reflection speaker at this semester's Commencement exercises. Both a graduate and an undergraduate student will be selected by a panel of faculty, administrators, and students to share an inspirational message at the respective fall ceremonies. Selected finalists must be graduates at their ceremony, in both academic and judicial good standing, and have a history of participation in campus and/or community activities.

Fall Commencement Fair Announcement

The Commencement Fair will be held over a two-day period in the Student Center Ballroom. All fall graduates are encouraged to attend one of the following days: Wednesday, September 25, 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. or Thursday, September 26, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. At the fair you can check on your degree status, RSVP to Commencement, purchase your regalia, take your cap and gown photo, record your commencement clip and meet with various organizations and off-campus vendors.

On Campus Temp Jobs for Recent Grads

The Office of Undergraduate Admission is looking for 2 recent graduates of GT or graduate students to work with campus visitors from September 15- March 15. Duties include giving daily information sessions about Georgia Tech, GT majors, student life, and a brief overview of the application process. There are two information sessions a day- 10am and 1pm and these positions would be responsible for not only giving the information session, but also greeting all visitors and answering any questions they might have about GT and the application process.

Commencement - Summer Grad Info

With the discontinuation of summer commencement, students graduating this semester are invited to participate in fall exercises. Summer graduates will be required to follow the same steps as our fall candidates. To help use communicate to summer students after the semester ends, we are asking those who intend to walk to register their email address with the Commencement Office between July 8 to July 26. This can be a personal email or their Georgia Tech email if they plan to check it regularly. We will send fall communications to these students so they may RSVP, pick-up tickets and order regalia in the fall. Graduation Party for Seniors

The graduation party held each year on the last day of classes for any student at Georgia Tech who is graduating in May, August or December of 2013 will be held on April 26th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm in Bobby Dodd Stadium. Each attendee is able to bring along one guest, and both will be able to participate in the full spectrum of the event's offerings for free.

Post Grad Job with Beyond 12

Beyond 12 is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase the number of low-income, first generation, and historically underrepresented students who graduate from our nation’s colleges and universities. Through an innovative technology platform and a student coaching service, Beyond 12 helps high schools and colleges connect with and support their students to ensure they earn a postsecondary degree. Beyond 12 has partnered with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund to support their Georgia Opportunities Program, a competitive scholarship program available to students of Hispanic heritage who are graduating from a Georgia high school in the spring of 2013 and who plan to enroll full-time in a degree-seeking program at an accredited college or university in the fall of 2013.The goal of the partnership is to support the scholars as they transition from high school to college and to ensure they are successful in college and beyond.

Summer Graduation Candidates Walking In Spring

In response to student feedback, the Institute has revised its Summer Commencement Policy! Undergraduate and graduate students (MS candidates) who have two or fewer classes remaining to complete degree requirements after the Spring 2013 term will be eligible to request participation in the spring ceremony. Undergraduates must have a 2.0 minimum GPA, and master’s students must have a 2.7 minimum GPA. Extenuating personal and family circumstances or issues related to the proximity of the student’s home to Atlanta will also be taken into consideration.

PepsiCo Invite-Only Recruiting Event Deadline

PepsiCo will be hosting an invite only recruiting event in Stone Mountain, GA on March 7th for those students interested in a career in sales and supply chain. There are positions available with Pepsi Americas Beverages (PAB) for the Sales Development Program &Supply Chain Operations. Full-time positions are also available. They are looking for graduating seniors seeking full-time positions. You must be graduating by August 2013. This event will give you the opportunity to meet PAB’s local management team, learn more about PepsiCo/PAB and its commitment to diversity, as well as showcase your abilities through one on one interviewing sessions.

Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History

The GT Alumni Career Fair is only for students who have already graduated and undergraduate and graduate students who will be graduating THIS spring. It will take place on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at the Cobb Galleria Centre.

Career Services Special Sessions for Spring 2013

Career Services is offering a job search group for seniors graduating in May. Previous participants have reported that the structure, learning about resources, and weekly check-ins have increased the effectiveness of their search process. The group will meet for six Wednesdays from 4:05 to 4:55 beginning late in January or early February. Graduating seniors who are interested in joining should contact Lanie Damon, Career Advisor, to be considered for the group.

Beginning late in January or early February, Career Services is piloting a small group career counseling workshop series, meeting six Tuesdays from 11:05 to 11:55. This offering is designed to assist first and second year students who are questioning their choice of major or intended career decisions. Students will complete exercises designed to expand their knowledge of the world of work and explore various influences on career decisions. They will have the opportunity to reflect on their discoveries in a small group setting. The contact is Lanie Damon, Career Advisor. For both groups, screening interviews will begin in early January and space is limited. Students should contact Lanie Damon to schedule an interview.

Peace and Security Fellowship in DC

The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship is a highly-competitive national program that provides college and graduate school graduates the opportunity to work in Washington, DC, with one of more than two dozen participating public-interest organizations focusing on international security issues. The program has awarded 141 fellowships since its inception in 1987 and is offered twice yearly, in the spring and fall. It lasts from six to nine months and provides a salary, health insurance, and travel costs to Washington. The Scoville Fellowship does not award grant or scholarship money to students.
Applications are due January 7, 2013 for the fall 2013 fellowship.
