The Ivan Allen College Student
Advisory Board is now recruiting new members! Be the voice for HTS on
the SAB. It is an excellent opportunity to get involved with the IAC,
improve the liberal arts' voice on campus, and network with faculty and

As a student on the Student Advisory Board you can:
- Make an impact in undergraduate student affairs

This opportunity to apply only comes around once a year. No previous leadership experience is required. The SAB is seeking committed students who are passionate about preserving and building our unique brand of liberal arts.

New membership comes only once a year.
Registration for many sessions is full or almost full, so you need to register ASAP, as seats will open up to alums next Wednesday and are sure to fill fast. HTS majors are currently underrepresented among Ivan Allen College students who have registered. Let's change that TODAY!
Currently sessions on Wednesday and Thursday have lots of space available and are really going to be great. Check out the website to get all the information, register for sessions, and see some student videos made by members of the IAC Student Advisors Board. IAC is launching an exciting new recruiting initiative, the Ivan Allen College Ambassador Program.

We are once again looking for undergraduate students for all our majors interested in volunteering for Shadow Day and serving as Ambassadors for our College and the Liberal Arts! Interested? Please fill out this spread sheet here. Insert your name, major, year in college, phone number, email, if you are Georgia Tech tour trained, and your schedule during the day of April 1st. Put FREE if you are open to volunteer, also please put down the name of any class you have that day.
There will be an information and training session Tuesday March 29th at 5pm in the Student Center room 301. Please look out for another email regarding this meeting. This session will be helpful if you have never volunteered for the college and want to be as prepared as possible to answer questions or be keen on best tour routes during Tech’s latest construction projects. FREE PIZZA WILL BE PROVIDED!
Also, if you would like to participate on either the Student Life or Study Abroad Panel, please email directly. The Study Abroad Panel will be comprised of a few students with Study Abroad Experience who will aid a Georgia Tech Advisor in a discussion on Study Abroad opportunities at Tech. The Student Life Panel will hold three students who are very involved with both the IAC and Georgia Tech. The students will explain the unique aspect of balancing fun on campus with campus organizations, as well as diving into the unique opportunity of living in one of the largest cities of the United States.

Nominations are now being accepted for the IAC student advisory board awards to be given out at the end of year awards luncheon. Nominations should include no more than a 500-word message of support about the nominee. Independent student nominations of other students and student self-nominations are acceptable.

The Ivan Allen College Student Advisory Board (SAB) is now accepting application for new members representing all majors. This is an amazing opportunity to be the voice of your major, fellow students, and liberal arts at Georgia Tech. HTS has only one student on the SAB, so we need more representation!

What: Shadow Day 2010 (the recruiting event of the year for the liberal arts)
When: Friday, January 29th and Monday, March 29th. Orientation will be held Sunday, January 24th at 5pm in Student Center room 320.
How: Volunteer from 20 minutes up to all day to take prospective students to class with you, personal tours or escort them to location and much more.

Elizabeth Miller and your Student Advisory Board (SAB)
Hello all! My name is Alecia Jefferson, and I'm the HTS representative for the Ivan Allen College Student Advisory Board. You've probably gotten a few emails about this already, so I wanted to tell you about my personal experience serving on the SAB.I was selected to be on the Board in my sophomore year. I had heard of the organization before but had no intention to apply until my advisor asked me to. Looking at the website I realized that the SAB wasn't just another club, but a serious organization dedicated to the advancement of liberal arts at Georgia Tech.
My involvement with the SAB makes a good resume line of course, but it's been so much more than that. I've become friends with some cool people I probably never would have met otherwise and made some fun memories. I formed a great relationship with Dr. Tone (HTS professor and Associate Dean of the Ivan Allen College) who wrote me a recommendation for an summer internship in Washington, D.C. which turned out to be the best one I've had thus far. I've gained confidence, learned how to network and helped coordinate events like Networking Night, Freshman Social and the recent liberal arts Town Hall.
I've enjoyed every minute of my time on the SAB and would do it all over again if I could, but I'll be graduating in the spring. What sort of things does the SAB do?
The SAB selects students from each major in IAC to represent their school's voice to the Dean and Associate Dean. We are an advisory board who helps guide the IAC in many aspects. We have helped place students on several Undergraduate Curriculum Committees, and we have also organized many campus events, including Georgia Tech's number one yielding recruitment event, Shadow Day. What sort of benefits do I get by serving on the SAB?
You will gain a deep understanding of how the college and institute are run. Board members interact with a variety of Georgia Tech staff and are considered by many faculty members to be some of IAC's top students. We also offer incredible campus leadership opportunities through the different programs the SAB is involved in.
