11th Annual Mock Interview Week
January 19th-22nd, 2016 from 9:00 AM - 3:15 PM

During Mock Interview Week company representatives volunteer their time to conduct practice interviews with our students to help them improve their interviewing skills. This is not only an invaluable development opportunity for our students, but also a great way to make connections with potential hires. The registration deadline is December 11, 2015.

The Culverhouse College of Commerce at The University of Alabama is hosting its second annual Leadership Diversity Competition on January 28-30, 2016. The deadline to apply is December 11.

This is an outstanding opportunity for junior and seniors from all majors to form a team of four and experience graduate school. A majority of the team must be from under-represented populations in business, but we want to attract all majors not just business majors.

If yes, then start recruiting a team for the Culverhouse Leadership Diversity Case Competition.

The competition is open to a select number of undergraduate institutions, this is a great opportunity to show off your talent for creating business solutions. Teams will enhance their academic experience by analyzing a business case and then presenting their recommendations to corporate executives who serve as a panel of judges.

The top three teams receive cash awards.

On December 1st, Scheller College of Business will host a networking event from 6.00 - 7.00 PM (room 300) with professionals working in the retail industry.  Interested in management and logistics?  Come out to the event and hear from professionals at the Home Depot, which employs a few HTS alums!

American Sociological Association (ASA) presents a webinar on applying your degree to a fulfilling career.  It features recently employed sociology graduates giving firsthand accounts of utilizing their degrees to land fulfilling jobs.

Part of the job search is marketing yourself and you will learn how to employ tools such as social media to enhance your employability. The presenters will also speak to what present- day employers are looking for and how you can convince them your college experience and degree answers their call. Researching and networking into the job you want, best practices in resume and cover letter writing, and interviewing techniques will also be covered.

We want to invest in adapting the real-world practices and approaches of executive leadership coaching to meet the needs of Georgia Tech students while also preparing them for the leadership roles they will have at Tech and beyond.

2015 PoweR Program

The PoweR Program is a two weekend intensive program that provides current communication students at Clark Atlanta University with an opportunity to understand the dynamics of a real PR campaign. By combining real-world work experience, training and development, and networking opportunities within the industry, PoweR participants gain valuable skills to better position themselves in the marketplace. Simultaneously, the program offers companies the opportunity to access top talent.

As a participant in the program, students will have a chance to work with coaches. The coaches – which include CAU alum - are current communications professionals that work in various industries and have respected knowledge and experience within their field. Their involvement will promote and advocate the importance of having alum help structure the PR curriculum as well as provide a current perspective of PR best practices that are not included in the textbooks.

ELIGIBILITY

To Apply for PoweR, you must be:

• Currently a college sophomore, junior or senior.
• Maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.8 out of 4.0; College sophomores, juniors or seniors must meet the GPA requirement at the time the application is submitted.
• Proof of GPA must be submitted via an official college transcript upon request.
• Able to show your passion to kick start a career in public relations through your essays.

Evaluating Job Offers Workshops

There are many things to weigh when considering an offer. Type of work, challenge, opportunity for advancement, salary, benefits, location and the company culture are the primary areas for consideration and concern.

On Wednesday, October 21st there will be an information session on careers centered around opportunities in intellectual properties. The showcase will be in the Bill Moore Student Success Center from 10:00AM-1:00PM. This event is FREE and lunch will be provided. For more information, click here.

Negotiating can be tricky, especially for a first-time job seeker. Check out these two workshops held by the Center for Career Discovery and Development this fall. On October 8th, industry and non-profit professionals will advise undergraduate and graduate students how to negotiate your salary. On October 15, the panel will shift focus to academic positions.
