Faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends of the College gathered to celebrate the end of the year at the Spring Faculty and Staff Luncheon on Tuesday, April 19.

Dean Jacqueline Royster led the program and recognized the accomplishments of the College throughout the year.

The first Annual HTS alumni-major networking event, (Net)working it with HTS. The event will be held on April 14th at the Old CE Building from 6-8; appetizers and beverages will be served. Come and see old friends, make new ones, trade careers tips and expand your rolodex. RSVP link is below.

GT Alum Joyce Danielle Sharpe will graduate with her Master of Science in Epidemiology from the University of Florida this spring. She successfully defended her master's thesis, which compared the trends of influenza-related searches, tweets, and views from Google, Twitter, and Wikipedia to flu trends reported by the CDC to assess how correlated the trends are. She will be attending Emory University for the PhD in Epidemiology program starting this fall.

The Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) Office has a leadership-based fellows program for Georgia Tech Master's, Ph.D. students, faculty, staff, and alumni who have an interest in learning to develop others and would like to become a leadership coach for Georgia Tech students. Leadership Fellows are professionally trained in leadership and coaching, earn a $3,000 stipend (Master's/Ph.D students) or recognition (Faculty/Staff/Alumni), and are expected to give four to five hours per week of time to the coaching process. 

Cody Hutchings, an HTS alum, is making a name for himself in the world of country music!  Under his performing name "Cody Parks," his latest single is a finalist for the Country Music Television Song Contest. Over 2,400 songs were submitted, and his song was selected by industry professionals as a finalist. Now it's up to the public to decide the winner.

Courtney O'Neal, an HTS alum who graduated in 2011, was named the 2015 Employee of the Year by the publisher of the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Congratulations to HSTS alumni Fang Zhou, Ph.D. on being promoted to Associate Professor at Georgia Gwinnett College!

Alumni shout out to Tom Hardy (HTS '96) who is conducting strategic brand-design research and teaching design management at SCAD! Hardy is a design strategist and former corporate head of the IBM Design Program.

On September 9th from 2pm to 3pm we will hold our third Ivan Allen College Twitter chat between students and alumni. The Chat will coincide with the Georgia Tech Career Fair; thus the topic is "How to Network at a Career Fair."

As a reminder, our Twitter chats began in the spring through the Alumni Relations subcommittee of the CLASS taskforce between C2D2 and Ivan Allen. Stephanie Jackson, Amy D'Unger, Meredith Schnepp, Jade Hill, and I have continued development on this project. Each Twitter chat brings together no more than four alums at a time to answer both moderated and student questions for one hour through social media.

We hope you will consider tuning in to the Twitter Chat. Moderated questions will be tweeted by Stephanie Jackson through the @GTliberalarts twitter account, and all tweets will use the hashtag #IACcareerchat.

In just a few weeks, thousands of students will see years of hard work, discipline, and commitment pay off when they receive their diplomas. If you’re one of those lucky students, you can take away some great services along with that diploma in your new life as a Georgia Tech alumnus.


Once you leave, the services provided by the Office of Information Technology change, but not everything goes away. You will always be a Yellow Jacket, but you’ll be a former student when you have not registered for two consecutive terms. After that time, some online resources will no longer be available to you.
