The Society of Georgia Archivists (SGA) was established in 1969 to foster a community of archivists, librarians, historians, educators, and museum and historical agency personnel in the state of Georgia and the southeast. SGA fosters and supports the archival community by advocating for professionals, collections, and repositories; encouraging diversity in the field; promoting education and professional development; and advancing scholarly research and innovation through the publication of our journal, Provenance.




SGA is dedicated to creating opportunities for students to learn more about the field of archives by offering educational events, networking, and career development activities. Membership in SGA also provides a solid connection to information about current archival and historical trends and issues as well as opportunities to associate with and learn from leading individuals in the field.

Membership for full-time students is only $10 annually. Benefits of membership include discounted annual meeting and workshop fees, access to the SGA listserv and online job postings, SGA's Mentoring Program, as well as subscriptions to the SGA publications Provenance and the SGA Newsletter.

11th Annual Mock Interview Week
January 19th-22nd, 2016 from 9:00 AM - 3:15 PM

During Mock Interview Week company representatives volunteer their time to conduct practice interviews with our students to help them improve their interviewing skills. This is not only an invaluable development opportunity for our students, but also a great way to make connections with potential hires. The registration deadline is December 11, 2015.

On Wednesday, October 21st there will be an information session on careers centered around opportunities in intellectual properties. The showcase will be in the Bill Moore Student Success Center from 10:00AM-1:00PM. This event is FREE and lunch will be provided. For more information, click here.

Georgia Tech Fall Career Fair

The fall Career Fair will be held at the Campus Recreation Center Sept. 14–15 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

Students are required to wear business formal attire to enter the fair. Heels are permitted. Students do not need to register, but need to bring their BuzzCard or GTID number to enter.

On September 10th Accenture is hosting a women’s panel where women across industries, operating groups and career levels will share their Accenture journeys and answer your questions. This event will be held from 7:30-9:00 in the Student Success Center. Attire is business casual and refreshments will be provided.

On Thursday, September 17th Accenture will be partnering with Loft at Atlantic Station to host a Dress Your Best networking night. Not only will it be a great time to meet women from Accenture (and shop with a special 25% corporate discount), but Loft associates will lead a discussion and activity about building a wardrobe to accommodate your professional life and your bustling social life. Hiring specialists from Fulton County Schools and Gwinnett County Public Schools will be conducting mock interviews for all who sign up to come. Interview slots will be 20 minutes long with each specialist. You may meet with one or both specialists. 

This event is an excellent networking opportunity and will help you hone your interview skills because you will receive immediate feedback. The hiring specialists will also critique your resume.

THE NETWORKING CHALLENGE: FROM INTROVERT TO SUPERCONNECTOR IN A MONTH

When it comes to networking, there are two ends of the spectrum. On one side is the guy at the party who seems to know everyone and thrives on helping you meet meaningful connections—we call them superconnectors.

On the other end is someone like me, someone whose stomach churns at the idea of making industy small talk with in a room of total strangers. And I'm not alone.

So many people despise networking, in fact, that researchers from the University of Toronto found that it makes us feel literally dirty. They concluded that professional networking feels gross to us when relationships are formed based on a career need, rather than for sincere friendship. This triggers our moral disgust, which is linked to physical feelings of uncleanliness.

But career success rarely comes from sitting quietly in your room every night. The solution, then, is to change our perspectives and approach. Instead, introverts and the general network-averse need to work on finding connections that genuinely interest us beyond professional gain.

On Friday, April 17, 2015, Forté Foundation a non-profit organization dedicated to helping women succeed as leaders in business is hosting the C2B Business Leadership Conference for Undergraduate women from diverse academic backgrounds including STEM, Economics, Liberal Arts, Finance, and Communications majors. This is a great opportunity for freshmen and sophomores (juniors will be considered). To be eligible please submit a short application online as the event is free of charge.
