The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) is pleased to announce the sixth annual Public Fellows competition. In 2016, the program will place 21 recent humanities PhDs in two-year positions at partnering nonprofits and government agencies, where the fellows will participate in the core work of these organizations while benefitting from professional mentoring and career development opportunities.
Competitive applicants will have been successful in both academic and extra-academic experiences, and will aspire to careers in administration, management, and public service by choice rather than circumstance. Applicants must possess US citizenship or permanent resident status and have a PhD in the humanities or humanistic social sciences conferred between January 1, 2013 and June 12, 2016.

Manna Project International (MPI) has summer internship positions available for time periods of 4 weeks or 8 weeks. These positions start as early as May 2016.

This highly valued scholarship is available to a select group of exceptional students from outstanding academic institutions.

Habitat for Humanity Corporate Relations and Fundraising Internships

During the Corporate Relations internship, you will be a part of a historic launch of a new business development strategy not only for HFHI but also in the non-profit sector. This is a rare opportunity to be on the ground level of a pilot that has the potential to reposition HFHI as a business solution to specific measurable company objectives. This approach is a shift in the non-profit approach and this internship will have a front seat view of the outcomes. The deadline to apply is today!

As the Fundraising and Development Intern, you will work with one of the newer Resource Development teams at Habitat for Humanity International. This dynamic team is leading HFHI's engagement with US Foundations to generate revenue from Foundations in support of HFHI's programs in the US and around the world. The deadline to apply is December 31st.

Project Healthy Grandparents - WRC Holiday Project

Each year, during the holidays, the Women’s Resource Center adopts a family headed by a grandparent raising her grandchildren. This is the fifteenth year of participation. There are many reasons grandparents become caregivers and second-time parents. The issues cross socioeconomic and racial lines, but many of the grandparents are on a fixed income and the holidays are difficult for them to manage.

We have been matched with our Grandparent family! Please let us know ASAP if you would like to participate! We have a sweet grandmother, and her grandson (16 months old) to provide a beautiful holiday season for! We can accept cash, check, gift cards, or specific gifts (see Colleen or Melanie for those NEW items).

Each year Georgia Tech recognizes the legacy of Liam Rattray, a public policy major who was killed in a traffic accident several weeks after he graduated with a BSPP in 2011. Liam was an activist, an urban gardener, an entrepreneur and innovator, and an embodiment of many of the virtues that we hope to promote in our students -- and ourselves. I think he would be delighted at Georgia Tech's new initiative on creating sustainable communities, so it's fitting that his memory is tied to our new campus-wide project. 

Students, faculty, staff, and alumni are invited to participate in service projects around the city on Sunday, Oct. 18.

Each fall, TEAM Buzz provides a chance for the Tech community to give back to surrounding neighborhoods through hands-on volunteerism. This year, student organizers expect around 2,000 student, alumni, faculty, and staff volunteers to meet at the Kessler Campanile on Sunday, Oct. 18, before spreading out across the city.

Heritage Sandy Springs is looking for young, enthusiastic students who would like to gain experience in public history. Our Museum is located in a historic 1880s farm house, which tells a unique story about the Williams and Paynes Families of Sandy Springs. In this space we also host rotating exhibits. On display until August 1, 2015 is The Civil War in Sandy Springs, following which we will exhibit Sandy Springs: Then and Now.
We are seeking volunteer museum docents who are passionate about history, art, and culture. Training will be provided to help you answer visitor questions about the house and exhibits. We ask that docents commit to at least one, three-hour shift per month: Wednesdays 11am-2pm or Saturdays 11am-2pm.

Ivan Allen Shadow Day is quickly approaching (Friday, April 3rd) and we are still in need of student volunteers! Volunteers only need an hour or more of free time on Friday and will be asked to give tours, mingle with students, or bring students to class. Shadow Day is such a rewarding experience and a great way to show prospective students around campus. 

The Atlanta Motor Speedway has t 1-2 internship positions available this summer with Speedway Children’s Charities at Atlanta Motor Speedway! It’s a very comprehensive learning experience as you have to get involved with event management, marketing and promotion, sales, administration, volunteer coordination, public relations, and more.

The International Rescue Committee Atlanta’s Youth Education Department has expanded and is in need of many volunteers to support their after-school program as well as a couple of interns to provide in-office support. The International Rescue Committee is looking for interpreter volunteers, education volunteers, and education interns.

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. The IRC in Atlanta office was established in 1979 and has resettled over 21,000 refugees from nearly 50 countries into the Greater Atlanta area. As the largest refugee resettlement agency in Georgia, the IRC in Atlanta resettles an average of 800 refugees into Georgia annually and provides additional services and assistance to another 1,500 refugees and asylees.

On March 27, the Institute of Leadership and Entrepreneurship will host our annual Ideas to Serve Competition. I2S is about creating a better world. The competition is for current Georgia Tech students and recent alumni who have early stage product/service ideas or venture concepts that are geared towards creating a better world through students who Dare to Care.

Entries might focus on reducing poverty, alleviating hunger, promoting health and wellness, improving air and water quality, reducing of the rate of depletion of natural resources, or developing alternate sources of energy…just to name a few!

Recent Tech alumni have said they want to see Tech graduates better prepared to understand the social, cultural, and environmental impact of their professions. Georgia Tech’s latest undergraduate educational plan, Serve•Learn•Sustain, is its latest initiative designed to improve the undergraduate education experience by developing academic courses and programs that combine community involvement with sustainability.
