The SGA Student Lobby/Government Relations Committee are hosting a debate between two GA State Senators about the Religious Freedom Restoration Act on April 15th at the Campanile at 6pm.

The debate is meant to be an engaged dialogue and will not have winning or losing team so the formal rules of debate will not be strictly followed. There will be time for Q & A from the audience and a brainstorm session and discussion with everyone about possible solutions, alternatives and compromises.
Location: Clough 325
Time: 8:05 - 9:25 a.m.
Coffee and donuts/bagels provided.
· Opening arguments (each side has a maximum of 10 minutes)
· Rebuttal (each side has a maximum of 10 minutes)
· Q & A (questions from audience)
· Brainstorm (students and guests)
The Open Forum at 11:00 on the same day is also about guns but on college campuses. The forum is centered around the continuing debate that continues to appear within the state legislature (e.g. 2014 House Bill 60).

The first annual Challenge was a huge success (see video below!) and we hope to attract a wide range of students into the realm of policy advocacy this year as well! Finalists from all over the globe gathered in the Hungarian capital to attend workshops to improve their policy advocacy and public speaking skills as well as compete in progressive rounds of competition for prizes up to $10,000. This year's 23 finalists represented 11 countries including China, Croatia, Estonia, Ethiopia, India, Macedonia, Mauritius, Moldova, Morocco, United Kingdom and United States, and we would like expand our geographic reach!
This year’s theme "Digital Freedom and Its Limits" explores what policies governments or other groups should adopt to enhance the potential of digital technology to benefit individuals and societies. It also encourages debates about the limits on internet freedom and covers issues related to social networks, privacy, child safety, freedom, censorship, democracy, transparency, national security and much more.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE? Undergraduate students currently enrolled in an accredited college or university anywhere in the world, as well as recent graduates.*

Mr. Camille Grand
Camille Grand has been the executive director of the Foundation for Strategic Research (Fondation pour la recherche stratégique or FRS), the leading French think tank on defense and security, since September 2008. Prior to this assignment, he was deputy director for disarmament and multilateral affairs in the directorate for strategic, security, and disarmament affairs of the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. Mr. Grand was previously the deputy diplomatic adviser to the French Defense Minister, Mrs. Alliot-Marie. He also served as an expert on nuclear policy and non-proliferation in the Strategic Affairs Department of the French Ministry of Defense.
Dr. Nikolai Sokov
Dr. Nikolai N. Sokov is a Senior Research Associate at James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, Monterey Institute of International Studies. He graduated from Moscow State University in 1981 and subsequently worked at the Institute of US and Canadian Studies and the Institute of World Economy and International Relations in Moscow. From 1987-92 he worked at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Soviet Union and later Russia, and participated in START I and START II negotiations as well as in a number of summit and ministerial meetings. Dr. Nikolai has published extensively on international security and arms control.
