Undergraduate research at Tech will be showcased on Tuesday, April 19th (tomorrow) at the 11th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium http://urop.gatech.edu/2016-symposium in the Student Center Ballroom and surrounding rooms. Approximately 200 students will present their work on medical advances in multiple fields, sustainable building design, regeneration, even a wristband that digitizes handwriting on 2D surfaces, plus much, much more! Over 160 presentations with reception to follow (presentations 1-4:30pm | reception 4:30-6pm). The full symposium program is online here.

HTS has NO REPRESENTATION IN THE SGA. This is a great opportunity for any HTS student to show off and enhance their leadership skills during the fall semester.

Both pairs of candidates received 30 percent of the student vote, with a total of 3,296 students participating. Elections for the runoff will re-open on Friday, April 15, at 1 p.m. and close on April 19 at 4 p.m. Winners will be announced that day at 6 p.m. Students can vote through www.elections.gatech.edu/.

"The Tower" is hosting the Undergraduate Research Kaleidoscope and is a great opportunity for undergraduate students to present their research and also to attend the event.

The Undergraduate Research Kaleidoscope (URK) is a great opportunity to present your research in Pecha Kucha format(20 slides, 20 seconds each). Presentations must be designed to emphasize the importance of your research rather than specific results.

The Spring Symposium is the biggest undergraduate research colloquium at Georgia Tech and a valuable opportunity for all undergraduate students to gain experience in presenting their research. Prizes will be awarded to the top poster and oral presentations from each college.

PURA Summer 2016 Applications are due February 26

President's Undergraduate Research Awards fund student salaries to conduct undergraduate research with Georgia Tech faculty and offset travel expenses for undergraduates to present their research at professional conferences. Between two hundred and three hundred competitive awards are offered each year.
Salary Awards offer a $1,500 stipend to undergraduate students who are conducting research with a Georgia Tech faculty member or Georgia Tech Research Institute scientist. Both faculty members and students can initiate research projects, but the award proposal must be written by the student, and the student must apply by the established deadline for the semester in which the funds are requested. Funds are competitively awarded. Please read all rules, eligibility requirements, and application procedures below before applying.

Georgia Tech is known as one of the leading research universities in the country, with faculty from around the world conducting groundbreaking work in their fields. Through undergraduate research, many undergraduate students take advantage of the opportunity to work with these experts during their time at Tech.

Dr. D'Unger is looking for a new student assistant to help with tasks related to the HSOC undergraduate program, recruitment, and outreach to alums.  The qualified candidate must be extremely reliable, organized, flexible, detail oriented, creative, able to work on tight deadlines, and able to function both independently and in a close work space.

Required skills include:

    Excellent writing and oral communications skills (including proof reading);
    Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint;
    Experience with Google docs and forms; and
    Ability to create digital and print media, such as flyers, brochures, digital ads, etc.

Preferred skills include:

    Experience with blogging software, especially Drupal;
    Experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop; and
    Experience maintaining websites using a content management system.

Tasks include:

    Basic office work (copying, filing, compiling mailings, etc.);
    Maintaining the HSOC blog, which will be hosted on Drupal;
    Creating hard copy and digital advertising;
    Maintaining databases of HSOC alums and prospective students; and
    Other tasks, as needed.

The pay is $10 an hour for approximately 8 - 10 hours per week, beginning the first or second week of school.  The position is available for the spring and summer 2016 semesters.  There is a possibility that it will be extended into fall as well, but that's TBD.

The ThinkSwiss scholarship program managed by the Office of Science, Technology, and Higher Education of the Embassy of Switzerland in Washington, D.C. is ready to go into its next round! The program is designed for students enrolled at U.S. and Canadian universities and provides them with a scholarship so that they can go to Switzerland to undertake a research internship at a Swiss university or institution with a respective host professor for 2-3 months. 

If you want to graduate in FALL 2015 or SPRING 2016, please read the following:

The OAG for fall graduation will be open through August 21.  The OAG for spring graduation will be open September 1 - January 15.  ALL STUDENTS WHO WANT TO GRADUATE IN EITHER SEMESTER MUST FILE AN OAG.

Information on the OAG and how to file it can be found on the registrar's website here: http://registrar.gatech.edu/students/oag.php.

Here are the steps that you need to follow. Please note that this system relies on YOU to be responsible for following through with all the steps. Don't do it? You won't graduate.

1. Familiarize yourself with the OAG. Go to http://registrar.gatech.edu/students/oag.php and read through the information. A downloadable instructional PDF can be printed out here: http://registrar.gatech.edu/docs/pdf/oaghta.pdf.

2. Complete the OAG via OSCAR. Instructions on where to access the OAG in OSCAR are in the document listed in #1 (OSCAR> Student Services & Financial Aid> Student Records> Apply to Graduate). If your major is listed incorrectly or you have a declared minor that is missing, STOP IMMEDIATELY and email the Office of the Registrar Degree Certification team at dc@lists.gatech.edu. If your minor is not appearing because you haven't yet declared it, then you must do that first (refer to instructions in point #1 with information on how to do this). Schedule an appointment with me to take care of declaring your minor.

3. Once you hit "submit," continue on to the Georgia Tech Exit Survey, using the link provided.

4. Schedule a *HALF HOUR* advising appointment with Dr. D'Unger at gatech.gradesfirst.com. This must be done no later than August 31, 2015  if you are graduating in fall 2015 and January 15, 2016 if you are graduating in spring 2016.

5. Access the online HTS post-graduation contact form here and the HTS undergraduate exit survey here. PRINT OUT BOTH FORMS AND COMPLETE THEM. BRING THEM TO YOUR 1/2 HOUR ADVISING APPOINTMENT WITH DR. D'UNGER.

IN SUM, YOU MUST:

• complete the OAG,
• fill out the Georgia Tech exit survey,
• have a 1/2 hour appointment with Dr. D'Unger no later than August 31, 2015  if you are graduating in fall 2015 and January 15, 2016 if you are graduating in spring 2016, and
• turn in both the HTS contact form and HTS exit survey to Dr. D'Unger (at the advising appointment).

This is part of the Institute’s initiative to help undergraduate students graduate in a timely manner by providing alternative options for completing coursework.
Registration opens March 30 for the Summer Online Undergraduate Program. Designed for students who are not on campus during the summer, online classes help undergraduates:
1.) Get ahead and graduate on-time

2.) Get into classes that normally fill up

3.) Continue their studies during a co-op, internship or summer job (study aboard students are not eligible for this program)
