ThinkBig Lets Students Explore Yearlong Special TopicsTaking a backstage tour of the Fox Theatre, attending a Braves game, and getting to know a professor’s family are just a few things students have experienced through ThinkBig that they might not have otherwise.

ThinkBig living-learning communities give students the chance to pursue a topic, academic or extracurricular, throughout the year under the leadership of a dedicated faculty member. Participants live in designated areas of residence halls, meet with faculty leaders for informal discussions, and participate in outings related to their community’s topic.

The Grand Challenges Living Learning Community and the GT Honors Program. Each of these dynamic programs offers you the opportunity to join a community of students who live and learn together with close faculty interaction.

In the Grand Challenges Living Learning Community, students explore pressing world issues while building team-based problem-solving skills to prepare them for lifelong leadership in taking on grand challenges. Like-minded students who share a passion for innovation work in cross-disciplinary teams to design and implement solutions to real-world problems with the support of highly engaged faculty. Grand Challenges is designed for highly capable students who are motivated to make the world a better place.

The GT Honors Program is designed for students who are curious, open-minded, eager to learn and explore, willing to think and reflect, and deeply drawn to collaborative dialogue, inquiry, and discovery. Students select from a menu of active-learning core classes and small interdisciplinary classes, all led by passionate faculty who support students in driving their own learning experience. Students live and learn together in the Honors Program residential community and participate in social, cultural, and service activities at Georgia Tech and beyond.

You are welcome to apply to both programs. If accepted to both, you must choose to join one or the other because students in each program live and learn together. Applications are due January 31, 2015.

Women, Science, and Technology Spring Vacancies

The Georgia Tech Center for Women, Science, and Technology (WST) seeks women leaders to join the spring 2015 Women, Science, and Technology Learning Community. Georgia Tech's first living-learning community (founded fall 2000), the WST Learning Community invites female undergraduates in any major to apply for rooms in Stein House and Goldin House (4th St. A & B). A few WST Learning Community residents are moving out to go on coop or study abroad programs, so there will be spring 2015 openings.

WST will hold an open house in Stein on Tuesday, November 18, 2015, from 5:30-6:30pm. Students will offer tours of the residence halls. Students interested in moving to the WST Learning Community after fall term should contact me: carol.colatrella@lmc.gatech.edu

Community Internship Housing in Washington, D.C.

WISH Housing is expanding! We now have an additional historic property in our student housing community on the Hill! WISH is a unique intern housing program for students who seek a community of interns while in Washington, D.C.

The WISH International Student House is one block from historic Barracks Row, two blocks from the Eastern Market Metro, and three blocks from the Eastern Market. This prime location is also a 10-minute walk to the U.S. Capitol, Library of Congress, Supreme Court, and House and Senate offices.

It anchors a vibrant community of independent restaurants and shops of all kinds, and is a landmark destination for locals as well as tourists.

ThinkBig Registration DEADLINE TOMORROW

ThinkBig Kids@Nature community is a program led by Dr. Alfred Merrill, a Biology professor, where he and the students take inner city children and youth to outdoor activities a time or two each month, and the community meets once a week for 45 minutes to 1 hour in an informal setting in or near the residence hall that houses the community, with refreshments provided. (Please note: ThinkBig is only for students who intend to live in campus housing for the 2013-14 academic year) You can get more information about the program at www.thinkbig.gatech.edu.

Most communities meet on Tuesday or Thursday starting in the late afternoon or early evening, and all meet weekly. Registration deadline is Feb. 28 at 11:58 PM at the GT Housing web site. Students who have previously signed up for Housing can access their applications and amend them to join a ThinkBig community until 11:58 pm on Thursday, Feb. 28.

Housing for Summer DC Interns

Washington Intern Student Housing (WISH) is scheduling the Summer 2013 semester and welcomes interns to the Washington experience! They specialize in fully furnished intern-only locations within 5 blocks of the U.S. Capitol Grounds and Metro. The receptions, social mixers and speakers are open to all interns.

They offer group discounts and a limited number of volunteer positions for reduced rates. They will continue to offer 10% discounts for students whose Coordinator contacts them in advance, so keep in touch!

ThinkBig Community: Kids@Nature

Live in the International House in 2010 - 2011!

The International House is an exciting living learning community on campus, with 48 students from around the world together enjoying the best in international cuisine, film, culture, sports, service, literature, and intellectual stimulation.
