Ivan Allen College proudly recognizes 12 student-athletes who made the 2014-2015 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Honor Roll this year. The Honor Roll is comprised of student-athletes who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a grade point average of 3.0 or better for the full academic year. Students on the conference honor roll are lauded for their hard work in the classroom and academic achievement while also participating in ACC athletic competition. 

The Athletic Association is hiring peer tutors for HIST, HTS, and SOC classes.  Pay starts at $10/hr for undergraduate tutors and $12/hr for graduate tutors.  For the fall semester, there are tutoring sessions Sunday: 4-9PM; Monday – Thursday:  8AM-9PM and Friday: 8AM-2PM.  There is no requirement for minimum hours worked.

GEORGIA TECH ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION SEEKS QUALIFIED TUTORS

Georgia Tech Athletic Association (GTAA) seeks qualified tutors to work with our student athletes. Many of student athletes are majoring in programs that require advanced math, science and engineering courses, and the GTAA is looking to expand its team of tutors for Spring 2015. If you have an excellent understanding of any of the subjects listed below, GTAA wants you to join the team!

Pay starts at $10/hour for undergrads and $12/hour for graduate students. GAA has availability on Sundays, evenings and daytime for sessions and can work with any schedule. There are no minimum weekly requirement - even if you only have two free hours per week.

The minimum requirements are an A or a B in the course you wish to tutor and a 3.0 cumulative GPA, or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.

All tutors will be compensated for their time – undergraduate tutors start at $10, while graduate students start at $12 per hour. Undergraduate students must have completed 2 consecutive semesters at Tech and have earned at least a ‘B’ in the course they wish to tutor.

The tutor program is the core of our academic support unit and qualified tutors are integral to the success of this program. The goal of academic tutoring is to help facilitate learning and enhance the course material; it is not to guarantee athletic eligibility. Our focus is on the "student" in student-athlete. Peer tutors are students who have been selected, trained, and designated to offer educational services to student-athletes. Tutorial services are intentionally designed to assist student-athletes toward attainment of their defined educational goals. The impact of sports does not end when the game does. Nutritional supplement use among athletes is hotly contested. Football concussions are making headlines. The economic effect of a new city stadium is generating debate. As technology becomes increasingly integrated with sports, Georgia Tech is positioning its new Sports, Society, and Technology (SST) program to be the source for answers.  John Tone said the program is unique because of how it capitalizes on Georgia Tech’s research strengths coupled with the “radical interdisciplinary quality of the curriculum.”  In the coming years, the program hopes to expand to allow students to minor or major in SST and possibly offer a graduate certificate. For now, the classes give students a rich perspective and preparation for work in the sports industry and shine a spotlight on the preeminent faculty research ongoing in sports studies.

• Open to international affairs, communications, marketing, sports administration and related business and liberal arts majors 
• Open to juniors, seniors and graduate students only
• Must be seeking an internship for course credit as prescribed part of the curriculum (students will be required to submit documentation from their school)
• No financial compensation other than parking reimbursement
• Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0

Tutoring with the Athletic Association is an excellent way to help other students, ensure your knowledge before graduate or licensure examinations, build your resume, and gain job skills while becoming proficient in your major and earning a little money. Beginning pay for undergraduates is $10.00/hour and $12.00/hour for graduate students.

HTS major Sasha Foodlett was recently selected by the Indiana Fever as the No. 11 pick in the 2012 WNBA Draft.

“Every accolade I've gotten or received, I've had to fight for,” she said in a teleconference with Indiana reporters. “This is just another day in the life. I'm ready and eager to get it started.

“I feel like I have a little ways to go,” added Goodlett, who averaged 14.5 points and 7.7 rebounds in helping Tech to a record 26 victories last season. “But I'm very excited and ready to do the same things with the Fever that I did with Georgia Tech.”

From the AJC:

Georgia Tech placed four football players on the All-ACC Academic team, three of whom have graduated – guard Will Jackson, B-back Preston Lyons, defensive end Jason Peters and defensive tackle Logan Walls.

To be eligible for consideration, the athlete must earn a 3.0 GPA for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 average for his academic career.

Logan Walls, who earned his management degree in 2011 and was pursuing a second major in history, technology & society last fall, earned his third all-academic selection.

Jackson, a business administration major, has made the team for two years in a row. It was the first honor for Peters, who earned his management degree last year and began a second degree in biology, and Preston Lyons, a history, technology & society major who graduated in December.

It’s the third time in coach Paul Johnson’s four years that four team members have been honored.

Way to go HTS majors!

The Atlanta Braves Trainee Program is designed for recent college graduates who are interested in pursuing a career in professional sports. Each year, the program attempts to hire individuals from around the nation with diverse backgrounds who are ambitious, intelligent, creative, and customer service oriented candidates to work in various departments within business operations from January to November. This not only provides them with a valuable experience in the day-to-day operations of a professional sports franchise, but it also gives trainees the opportunity to build a network with those in the sports industry who can provide guidance, advice, and possible connections for job opportunities upon completion of the program.

The Atlanta Braves Trainee Program is open to any qualified applicant who has a college degree and a GPA of at least a 3.0 at graduation. Trainees are expected to work at least 37.5 hours per week and may have additional game day responsibilities (depending on department assignment). The individuals who participate in this program are paid $9.50/hour, but are not entitled to benefits (i.e. insurance, vacation, etc.)
