Students are encouraged to participate in the annual Ideas to Serve Competition. If you are a student working on projects (class related or personal) that address social or environmental problems in the community or around the globe this is a great opportunity to get mentoring, feedback, and prize money to move your idea to the next phase. It is also a great differentiator for your resume and a great way to expand your networks.

Atlanta has grown exponentially in recent years as a hub for startups. With Georgia Tech’s campus in the center of all this activity, it’s no surprise that students have embraced the startup culture.

Intellectual Property Open Forum: Ask the Expert - Lorraine Spector, USPTO Supervisory Patent Examiner

If you are looking for an introduction to the patent process, make plans to attend the Open Forum and Q&A session with Lorraine Spector, a Supervisory Patent Examiner with the United States Patent and Trademarks Office (USPTO) on March 23, 2015 from 3:30-5PM in the Ferst Room of the GT Library (7th Floor). Light refreshments will be served. This event is open to the Georgia Tech community - students, researchers, faculty and staff.

Lorraine Spector

Lorraine Spector is a Supervisory Patent Examiner in the Training Technology Center, 4100. In that role, she trains newly hired patent examiners from the time they are hired until they progress to their ultimate place in the office four months later. She also gives numerous lectures on legal and other examining-related topics, writes and devises curriculum. This encompasses all levels of Examiner training, including a course on Patent Examination principles for Non-Examiners and special lectures to groups of Patent Examiners from other countries, that come to the USPTO to learn about US Patent Laws, and how the USPTO applies them. Throughout her career, in addition to examining patent applications, Spector has also been responsible for the initial training of over 300 patent examiners.

Paid Internship Opportunity: Campus Founder

This is an opportunity for undergraduate students at the Georgia Tech who are interested in an on-campus internship with OnMyBlock that focuses on marketing, sales, and entrepreneurship. 

The role is called a Campus Founder. The intern will be in charge of creating viral on-campus marketing campaigns to drive student interest, pitching the product to landlords, and building the brand from the ground up.

OnMyBlock is looking for individuals interested in real estate, marketing, sales, or entrepreneurship. This role is extremely flexible, with no concrete hour requirements but expects a lot of hustle out of any potential candidates. TripLingo (www.TripLingo.com) is a local Atlanta startup that creates language-learning iOS and Android apps for international travelers. They've won a number of industry awards, and currently have over 75k users.
