Historic Westside Cultural Arts Council has an exhibit on the history of English Avenue and Vine City November 19, 22 and 25. The exhibit will travel to the English Avenue Food Co-Op, Lindsay Street Baptist Church, and the Atlanta Harm Reduction Coalitions Thanksgiving Meal.

The Millennial Advisory Panel is an outgrowth of ARC’s New Voices campaign, which was designed to engage unique groups and new voices in ARC’s planning activities. New Voices chose millennials because, as young people in their 20s and 30s, they are widely seen as critical to the region’s future. Millennials represent the next generation of residents who will live and work in the Atlanta region, shaping and leading it for the next 30 to 40 years.

Social Mood Conference

The Big Data revolution has dramatically expanded the amount of information at our disposal about human social behavior. One of this area’s key findings is confirmation of what psychologists and behavioral finance scholars have known for decades: how we feel influences what we do. Until recently, most work in these fields centered on individuals. Now, with data from social media, the Internet, smartphone technology, large corpuses of textual data like Google Books, and more, we are increasingly able to zoom-out and move the unit of analysis from the individual to the social group. As research progresses, it will be crucial to stay abreast of the latest developments across many fields and for researchers to cross-pollinate their work with insights, frameworks, theories and tools from adjacent disciplines. We invite you to join us on April 11 in Atlanta for a day of intriguing presentations and lively discussions about the relationship between social mood and social behavior, broadly under the banner of socionomic theory, a model which uses financial market data as a social mood indicator to forecast cultural and behavioral trends. What are the benefits of applying to be on the eligibility list?
If accepted, the Metro RESA sends your name to all member counties (Georgia RESAs map and directory)
Indicating you are cleared to begin a TAPP program upon hire. If you require alternate certification, you are immediately a stronger candidate. You are required to take an introduction course in the summer and then officially begin the TAPP program upon the start of a teaching job. Some systems, e.g. Marietta City, will not hire applicants needing alternate certificate who are not on the eligibility list.The requirements to apply for the eligibility are the same as those you need to apply for a job (GACEs, resume, references, etc.). By applying for the list, you prepare yourself for the job market while improving your chances of getting a job.
*Note: DeKalb, Fulton, and Gwinnett have internal TAPP programs only for those county’s employees but will accept the Metro RESA TAPP. Clayton does NOT accept the Metro RESA TAPP, and one must apply to Clayton’s program.
As a reflection of our goals, BOPSOP is an acronym for "Believe Our Purpose, Share Our Plan." This program is a three hour commitment once a week. You can choose to volunteer any day Monday-Thursday!

Since homelessness impacts all groups, regardless of race, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, or gender, we are making a concerted effort to get the entire city involved in helping to eradicate it. We need your help! This is in part to fill federal requirements for homeless program funding, but also to gauge how current programs are doing.
This effort, sponsored by the Atlanta Continuum of Care and its partners (Pathways Community Network Institute, Kroger, Trader Joe's, and United Way) is one of the largest in Atlanta and we need over 400 volunteers! As a community of academics, let's lead the way in transforming our communities, in solidarity.

Mayor Kasim Reed's office is launching a new campaign, "Take A Stand" aimed at reducing the number of sexual assaults in Atlanta. Tomorrow (11/13), the Mayor's Office is kicking off this campaign by hosting a Press Conference at 11:30am at City Hall. Later in the day at 5pm, there will be a screening of a new 25-minute film about sexual assault and prevention, as well as PSAs featuring celebrity advocates for sexual violence prevention and a panel discussion.
An internship at the Atlanta History Center is a challenging, educational experience designed for undergraduate and graduate students interested in pursuing a career in any aspect of museum administration, archives and/or public history. Working alongside AHC staff in a tutorial arrangement, interns gain valuable skills and training in their chosen field. While specific projects vary with AHC needs and priorities, opportunities will be available in a variety of areas. Placements are subject to availability. Internships at the Atlanta History Center carry no stipends or wages. To apply, please complete the application form and include the required documents. The second annual Atlanta Studies Symposium will be held at Georgia State University on April 4, 2014 at Centennial Hall starting with coffee and muffins at 8:30 and concluding with a wine reception at 6 p.m. In between, attend talks from scholars from around the country whose work focuses on Atlanta, including keynote addresses by LeeAnn Lands (author of The Culture of Property: Race, Class, and Housing Landscapes in Atlanta 1880-1950) and Clarence Stone (author of Regime Politics: Governing Atlanta, 1946-1988).
