Description:
Position: Scanning Intern
Project: State Records Digitization
Location: Reformatting Area
Purpose: To Digitize state records from a variety of original formats including flat documents, bound volumes and ledgers, and microfilm.
Duties:
Prepare original records for scanning:
  • Removal of damaging fasteners such as paper
  • clips and staples
  • Unfolding and flattening of documents
  • Re-foldering and re-boxing
  • Labeling folders
Operate a variety of scanning equipment
  • Oversize flatbed scanner
  • Flatbed scanner
  • Microfilm scanner
Post imaging processing and indexing
  • Crop images and make adjustments
  • Create derivative images
  • Enter associated metadata into CONTENTdm
Ensure quality throughout the process
  • Track work in database
  • Proofread metadata
  • Verify image quality

Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficient with pc hardware and software
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good manual dexterity
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to take instruction and follow direction
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with scanning
  • Experience with data entry
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop
  • Knowledge of & interest in Georgia history
Rate and Time: 
10.00 /hr.  15-20 hours a week.
