Summary of Internship:
The Russell Library Internship provides hands-on experience with all areas of archival work, including accessioning and processing of paper and digital archival materials, outreach, and donor relations.
Project Description:
The intern will be assigned one archival collection of approximately 40 linear feet to arrange and describe in its entirety.

- Survey collection, review inventories and develop a processing plan.
- Conduct collection appraisal and determine disposition of separated materials.
- Arrange and describe the collection using Microsoft Excel and Archivists’ Toolkit
- Produce a DACS-compliant EAD finding aid made available through RBRL’s online finding aids database.
- Accession newly donated collections and additions.
- Direct the work of one of RBRL’s student assistants.
- Digital Archives
- The intern will work closely with the digital archivist to complete a digital accession and process a collection of digital records from start to finish.
- Accession disks, including copying files with Data Accessioner and producing documentation with Karen's Directory Printer and Archivists' Toolkit.
- Appraise, arrange and describe a collection using Microsoft Excel and Archivists' Toolkit.
- Evaluate the collection for sensitive information that should be restricted.
- Analyze the formats present in the collection and research preservation and access strategies for a common format.

The intern will work between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Housing Options

Option 2: The intern secures her/his own housing in Athens for the duration of the internship.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, a list of three references, and a writing sample to Mat Darby, matdarby@uga.edu. The cover letter should provide a detailed description of the applicant’s experience and expectations for the internship. The writing sample should demonstrate the applicant’s ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
For first consideration, applications should be submitted by March 1, 2015, but will be accepted until the internship is filled. A decision will be made by April 10, 2015, and the internship will begin on or after May 18, 2015.
