The Philip Merrill Center for Strategic Studies is currently seeking a Program Assistant to provide administrative support to the project director, distinguished practitioner in residence, and any visiting fellows who become associated with the projects.

This is a 4-year grant funded position to support the Hertog Leadership Project at the Merrill Center for Strategic Studies

The Program Assistant will also:
  1. Provide administrative support to the Merrill Center Executive Director, Distinguished Practitioners in Residence, and Summer Study Project Director
  2. S/he facilitates the logistical aspects of events;
  3. Manages program budgets and grants;
  4. Processes expenditures;
  5. Provides assistance and support to staff and visiting scholars; and assures the smooth functioning of Center activities.
  6. S/he is the primary point of contact for the program with other SAIS academic and administrative programs/offices in coordinating activities, events, etc.
  7. S/he facilitates planning, organizing and implementing Hertog Leadership Project events;
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • HS diploma required; BA/BS degree preferred
  • Two or more years experience in managing academic projects and arranging and planning events
  • Two or more years experience in maintaining personal calendars and appointment schedules

SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to write documents and reports as needed and to interact effectively and politely with all stakeholders
  • Superior interpersonal and problem solving skills, patience, and ability to prioritize and manage several projects at once.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
  • Ability to work effectively with academic faculty, administrators, students, and a diverse group of international visitors.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint); willingness and ability to learn additional applications as needed
  • Commitment to serving the needs of a diverse and inclusive population
