I-MAST Summer Teaching Internship

Impacting Metro Atlanta Science Teaching (I-MAST) is a collaborative effort between Georgia Institute of Technology and Georgia State University to bring positive impact on science teaching in Metro Atlanta through engaging highly qualified candidates into science teaching.
This Summer Teaching Internship is one of several I-MAST efforts to provide an opportunity for undergraduate students at GA Tech to engage in and experience science teaching in Atlanta schools.
  • Time Commitment: 20 hours/week (Mon-Thur) for 10 weeks in Summer 2011
  • Dates: May 23-July 29th 
  • Compensation: $1500 stipend
  • Nature of the internship
  • Developing curriculum for summer science camp for middle school students in Atlanta.
  • Preparing and planning lessons
  • Teaching the lessons under supervision
  • Monitoring and evaluating student learning
  • Reflecting on the program progress
  • Participate in action research projects
Application Instructions:
Application due: May 8 (Decisions will be made on a rolling basis).
Applications consist of a three piece: 1) completed application form, 2) a written personal statement, and 3) one letter of recommendation from a faculty member, graduate student TA, or academic advisor who knows you well. 
The completed application form (containing the personal statement) should be sent to the Director of the Pre-Teaching Program, Ms. Beth Spencer (beth.spencer@provost.gatech.edu).
Recommendation letters should also be sent directly to Ms. Spencer from the recommender by the deadline.  Students who do not complete all pieces of the application will not be considered.
