We have added one more sociology course for next spring: HTS 3003 -- Sociology of Economic Institutions. This course examines the links between economic structures -- including markets, regulatory bodies, and labor relations systems -- and the wider structural and cultural context.
To that end, HTS 3003 will examine a variety of questions:
1. What are the historic relationship between the disciplines of economics and sociology?
2. What are the origins of capitalism? What are its different forms? Why are some nations more successful under in than others?
3. Where do firms come from? How are they organized and how do they survive?
The course will also examine issues such as networks, the rise of modern consumerism, and inequality.
Dr. Diogo Pinheiro, who recently completed his PhD in sociology at Emory and is currently a post-doctoral fellow here at Georgia Tech in the School of Public Policy, will teach this course.
Don't miss this opportunity to gain a greater understanding about our economy, its triumphs and troubles, and its origins and possible futures.
Since we added this course after registration began, there are still plenty of seats!
