New Ph.D. Program: Sociology, Urban Studies, & Social Work
Tulane University has awarded funding for a new Ph.D. Program in Sociology, Urban Studies, and Social Work titled City, Culture and Community (CCC) (website: http://tulane.edu/ccc/). The newly formed CCC Ph.D. Program is a broad-based and integrative graduate education-research program that addresses interrelationships between the physical environment, the built environment, and social, economic, and political institutions and processes that shape urban areas. The intellectual focus of the CCC program is unique in bringing together interdisciplinary approaches in the social sciences, social work, architecture, law, humanities and applying them to understand a range of issues pertaining to cities, culture, and communities. The new CCC program reflects Tulane University's effort and commitment to further interdisciplinary research and education to achieve greater synergy among related disciplines, to focus resources on programs of existing strength, and to put greater emphasis on subjects related to the transformation of urban communities. The CCC's breadth of interdisciplinary study allow students considerable flexibility to tailor their training to individual research interests while providing a depth of disciplinary skills in sociology, urban studies, or social work.
