As you know, digital technologies are transforming the ways in which we can engage with the history of works of art, architecture, and cities, both in terms of research as well as to communicate the history of places and things to the public. At Duke, we have been teaching and training our students at all levels (from first years through post-docs) with the digital technologies that are appropriate for our discipline. If you would like to see examples of the work we have been doing, please visit our website: http://www.dukewired.org/research/
The Duke Wired! team has found that digital tools are transformative in our teaching and research, and as a result we designed an 18-month M.A. program to train future art historians, historians, museum professionals and archaeologists with a range of appropriate technologies, including the following:
- Content Management Systems (WordPress)
- Digital Collections Building and Management (Omeka/Neatline)
- Basic GIS/Mapping (ArcGIS, qGIS, OpenStreetMaps, GoogleEarth)
- Basic Data Visualization (Tableau, D3, web applications such as Palladio)
- Video Production (iMovie)
- Image Manipulation (Photoshop)
- 3D Modeling (Sketchup)
If you have questions about the application process or the MA program, please email me at c.bruzelius@duke.edu, orhannah.jacobs@duke.edu.
