Atlanta families have organized to create Atlanta Classical Academy, a K-8, open-enrollment, tuition-free, public charter school that will serve Atlanta Public Schools students beginning in the Fall of 2014. Atlanta Classical will scale as our students advance to become a K-12 academy. Atlanta Classical Academy will deliver a classical, content-rich, liberal arts curriculum in a smaller school environment. Our plan calls for approximately 50 students per grade, and we anticipate a student-to-teacher ratio of 18 – 22:1.
The
school is currently looking to hire math teachers (along with other
positions). Applicants do not need
Georgia teaching certification.
The Atlanta
Classical Academy seeks applicants for an upper-school math teacher as well as
positions in the elementary school. The
math teacher will in the first year teach mostly Algebra and Geometry and some
pre-algebra, based on the ability level of the students. In subsequent years, the teaching will
consist of more advanced classes. In
addition to teaching particular classes, it is hoped that the math teacher will
be able to mentor elementary teachers in their teaching of basic and higher
arithmetic. Atlanta Classical intends to
establish a strong program in mathematics and seeks a teacher who will be able
to communicate the order and beauty of math to young people. Majors in mathematics are preferred, and
teacher certification is not required.
The school
also still has openings in grades kindergarten through third grade. Because of the demanding curriculum,
candidates with strong backgrounds in the liberal arts and sciences are
preferred.
