Event name: The Salvation Army Family Literacy Program 

Event description: The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center provides free literacy and GED programming to adult students.

Event date(s): Monday - Thursday 1 to 4 days per week

Event time(s): 6:00 - 7:00 pm

What volunteers will do? As adult students finish their curriculum and begin testing for their GED, teachers identify areas in which students could benefit from additional work. Volunteers will work with adult students to shore up skills in these subjects (usually Math).

Skills needed? Proficiency in basic math (some Algebra & Geometry), comfortable teaching/tutoring, comfortable around a diverse population from low socio-economic backgrounds, ability to convey academic skills to all learners

Training provided? The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Center will provide basic training, including expectations

Numbers of hours/days per week? 1-4

Length of commitment? Commitment varies on individual students

Transportation needed? The Kroc Center is located a few blocks from the West End MARTA Train station and is accessible via MARTA bus route 95
Compensation? Volunteers are welcome to come early for dinner served at 5pm
