Do you have a passion for mentoring, tutoring, community service, and ensuring the success of our youth? If so, Georgia Tech’s CEISMC Mentoring Program has the perfect opportunity for you. Our goal at CEISMC is to ensure that K-12 students in Georgia receive the best possible preparation in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) as they seek their place in the modern world.  Georgia Tech- CEISMC AmeriCorps Mentoring Program is a part of a national network of AmeriCorps Programs. Since 1994, more than 500,000 men and women have served in AmeriCorps, providing needed assistance to millions of Americans to meet critical needs in education, public safety, health, homeland security and the environment.

AmeriCorps Academic Mentoring & Enrichment Coordinator
Term of Service: All full-time members must serve 1750 hours over the course of 10 months. The position will begin on October 1, 2013 - July 31, 2014
Schedule: 1 full-time, 40 hour/week position

Benefits: Health Insurance, Education Award of $5,550 upon successful completion of AmeriCorps term (1750 hours completed)

Living Allowance: Full-time: $14,500 (stipend)
Duties:

  • Provide weekly mentoring and tutoring to assigned students during the school day
  • Plan and implement academic support, community service, and service-learning opportunities for students
  • Develop and implement enrichment activities for afterschool programs
  • Utilize imagination and resourcefulness in working with kindergarten through 12th grade students in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) focused curriculum
  • Work with school to assist with recruiting and orienting volunteers
  • Assists Program Director and Outreach Coordinator in maintaining records
  • Prepares weekly reports
  • Conducts monthly School Corps meetings, attends weekly professional development meetings, and attends monthly All Corps meetings
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma required. Prefer college degree (in a STEM related field) with experience working with youth.
  • Must have a strong interest in education 
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must have a strong interest in service and volunteerism
