Call for Papers:  Uncovering Buried Voices: Issues of Conflict and Change Through History

An Undergraduate Research Symposium
The History Department at Mississippi State University invites interested undergraduates to submit papers for the 5th annual Symposium for History Undergraduate Research (SHUR). The symposium will provide students with the opportunity to present and discuss their work in the format of an academic history conference. It is sceduled for April 26 - 27, 2013 on the Mississippi State campus in Starkville, MS. The theme of the symposium is "Uncovering Buried Voices: Issues of Conflict and Change through History" and all papers are welcome on this or any other historical topic. 

  • Papers that reflect the Mississippi State History Department's strengths in the following categories are especially welcome. 
  • history of science and technology
  • agricultural, rural, and environmental history
  • history of international security/internal safety
  • the Civil War, gender history
  • African American history and civil rights
The paper should be based on the student's original research in primary sources. Interested students should submit a 500 word proposal or abstract via email to Dr. Julia Osman at josman@history.msstate.edu by March 1, 2013. The History Department will offset the costs of one night's lodging for presenters and provide a BBQ banquet on Friday Night.
