Atlanta History Center Internship

A new internship position is available at the Atlanta History Center in the Public Programs department. They are looking for one or two students to assist with the annual Poetry Out Loud program that the History Center facilitates. Participating high school students from across the state of Georgia compete in poetry recitation competitions during the month of February. They are seeking an intern to work primarily on this project but to also assist within the department with the daily operations. Applications will be accepted through December 7th.

Click on Read More for More InformationPublic Programs AssistantDescription: An internship in the Public Programs Department will provide experience in all aspects of Public Programs Operations at the Atlanta History Center. The intern will be assigned to work on the Poetry Out Loud project which includes compiling the POL contact list; mailing program materials; returning phone calls and emails regarding the program; compiling the judge’s packets and assisting with the scoring at local weekend competitions.

Other job duties include:
  • Create new activities for the Kid’s Corner and maintain the space
  • Mail school tour brochures
  • Contact GA state social studies coordinators regarding upcoming school programs
  • Make confirmation calls for upcoming school programs
  • Prep materials for community outreach programs/events
  • Attend community outreach events
  • Fact check websites for program content
  • Research what programs other institutions offer
  • Assist with basic department organization and other duties as assigned
  • Assist with lecture series duties as needed
Time Commitment: Ten to twelve weeks (may have the opportunity to extend the time). Interns are required to work a minimum of 10 hours a week, and be available to assist with occasional weekend/evening programs/events. (Must be available to work the POL competitions each weekend in February and on March 9th).
