The Office of Pre-Teaching has been moved into CETL (Clough 457) and once again has a full-time advisor, Susan Belmonte. Susan is responsible for helping Tech students and alumni learn more about teaching careers in K-12 education as part of Tech to Teaching. Tech to Teaching is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and aims to create an infrastructure on the Georgia Tech campus that encourages and enables students to effectively pursue careers in K-12 or college teaching. Opportunities to explore K-12 teaching through tutoring, internships, research experiences, and other activities are available. Additionally, NSF funding and joint graduate programs with Kennesaw State and Georgia State exist. Susan will also assist students with certification and in job searches for K-12 positions. Those interested should contact Susan at sbelmonte@gatech.edu and may also join the pre-teaching listserv (teacher-prep@lists.gatech.edu). The Office of Pre-Teaching website is being revised but can still be reviewed at www.preteaching.gatech.edu.
Susan Belmonte, the Pre-Teaching Advisor, is happy to set up information workshops about K – 12 teaching as a career for any and all departments. Workshops can be for TAs, undergraduates, graduates, or a combination of groups. She is also willing to come to GT 1000 classes. Advisors interested in setting up a workshop should contact Susan at sbelmonte@gatech.edu. Individual students may also set up an appointment to meet with Susan to discuss their interests.
