Charged Magazine: Radical Writing for the Sci-Curious, is looking for contributors! Not a "scientist?" That's OK! The magazine is for anyone and everyone with an interest in science, and all perspectives are welcome-- historical, social, rhetorical, etc. IAC majors are encouraged to apply for staff positions now! Applications are due 6/1 and applicants will be notified by 6/7 of their status.
Charged Magazine Staff Position
Responsibilities
Managing Editor – Handles day-to-day operation of site and
delegates as necessary. Works with
senior editors and editor-in-chief to plan monthly staff meetings and weekly
editors meetings. Distribute unsolicited
submissions to senior editors for review.
Senior Science, Math, Engineering,
Computing Editors – Find writers in relevant subject area and
ensure regular posts. Enforce deadlines.
Write articles if necessary. Review submissions to determine if they are
suitable for publication and send back for revisions if necessary. Hand off to editors for final editing.
Editors – Edit unsolicited submissions and assigned articles for
grammar, style, keywords, teasers/subtitles and featured photos.
Chief of Technology/Webmaster – Maintains and edits WordPress-based
website. Works on optimizing site for
search engines.
Chief Analytic Officer – Analyzes website usage, designs and
executes surveys to assess user satisfaction and gauge learning. Works to secure institute review board
approval when necessary.
Head of Design/Art Director – Makes recommendations to editorial board
on site design. Works with editors and
authors to integrate multimedia content into stories.
Social Media/Marketing Manager – Markets chargedmagazine.org through
Facebook, Twitter, and other social websites.
Also monitors those sites for appropriate (or inappropriate) postings
from the community. Works closely with
Chief of Technology/Webmaster for integration
Community Manager/Moderator – approves comments and moderates forums.
Authors/Contributors – We are nothing without our content.
