INTA 4812 (Model UN class)

Posted by Admin On 1:42:00 PM
Each year the Sam Nunn School hosts a Model UN Conference each Fall Break (mid-October) for approximately 1000 high school students from the southeast and beyond. For more information on the conference feel free to visit this webpage.  We are looking for students to help research and plan this conference, no prior Model UN experience is required. The students from this class will be the Directors and Assistant Directors of committees for the 2012 Conference. Directors and Assistant Directors form the core of the conference staff, and they are responsible for running one of the dozen or so committees consisting of anywhere from 30 to 80 students.

This is an opportunity for anyone interested in being a part of the conference to get two credit hours for his or her work. The  class with meet once a week and the majority of the work will be done outside of class. This is for students who are serious about being a part of the Model UN Conference in the fall, which is held over Fall Break. The class will be graded on the timely completion of several small research papers (due throughout the semester) on topics of your choice relevant to the committee you are assigned (working in teams of two).

Taking this class and participating in GTMUN enables students to improve their research, organizational, and leadership skills.  These skills are all extremely important to success both at Georgia Tech and in future career settings.  Potential employers look highly upon students who have organized and hosted an educational conference with nearly 1000 attendees. Additionally, this opportunity allows students to positively represent the Ivan Allen College and Georgia Tech as they interact with students and teachers from across the region. Those interested in taking the class should contact Eric Raftery (eric.raftery@gatech.edu) with your name and GTID number in order to get a permit for this class. Please feel free to pass this e-mail onto anyone interested in Model UN as we encourage non-INTA majors to get involved as well! If you have any questions, please contact any of the GTMUN 2012 Secretariat listed below.
