Many of you are aware that the library has purchased limited access to Social Explorer. If not, know that it's a great resource that has compiled American demographic data from various resources (mainly Decennial Census data), dating back to 1790. The data can be organized in reports and displayed on a map down to the block group level within census tracts. Also, the site has created its own "social explorer" tables which allows you to compare data in various years and decades, a task that can be a headache when the Census rewords or redefines questions from decade to decade.
The library has purchased use for this resource, but unfortunately has only bought the subscription allowing use for one person at a time, significantly reducing access to this site. If you think this site will be helpful in at least one project throughout the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year, please sign the petition below to build confidence within the library staff at Georgia Tech that this is money well invested for Georgia Tech students.
