Employer: TAPPI – a technical association dedicated to the pulp, paper, and packaging industry
Location: 15 Technology Parkway, South, Norcross, Georgia 30092
Job Description:
TAPPI – a technical association devoted to the pulp, paper, and packaging industries (located in Norcross, GA) will celebrate its 100 year anniversary as an association in 2015. One of the elements of this anniversary will be the production of a history book and museum exhibition about TAPPI and the impact that its members have had on the technology developed within the past one hundred years. The pulp, paper, and packaging industry has in that time moved from an art into a science, much of which would have been impossible without TAPPI and its members.
TAPPI will need an intern to help lay the groundwork for this book. They will help us organize our photography collection and identify any gaps in that collection that needs to be filled to adequately tell the story. The intern or interns will also survey the membership and collect some oral histories to determine the greatest achievements in the industry in the past 100 years and who was involved in these discoveries.
This unpaid internship will work with our volunteer membership to organize the archives, develop a database of technological achievements, and help to write portions of the 100 year anniversary book. This position may develop into a paid position or positions over time. The intern will work in Norcross 20 hours per week. Hours are flexible however they may need to attend monthly conference calls with the volunteers. This is an excellent opportunity to get experience in recording industrial history to develop published materials as well as a museum exhibition.
