Ph.D. Recipient from the School of History, Technology, and Society wins an award!
In 1992 the Alumni Association established The Betty L. Siegel Award as a way to bestow annual recognition to an outstanding faculty member who exemplifies the qualities of scholarship, leadership and service. The award is named for the second President of Kennesaw State University, Dr. Betty Siegel. In order to be nominated for this award, an alumna or alumnus of KSU submits a letter of recommendation in support of a beloved faculty member, someone who has significantly enhanced their academic career.
Every year we receive many heartwarming letters, and this year was no exception. It is my pleasure to announce this year’s Betty L. Siegel Award recipient, Dr. LeeAnn Lands, Associate Professor of History and American Studies at KSU.
Among her many achievements, Dr. Lands is known most recently for initiating the new Master’s in American Studies program at KSU. She has prepared a collection of seven radio documentaries entitled, “Taking Place: South Rome,” which aired on WRGA-Rome. Adding to her acclaim, her work on the class and racial divisions in cities and institutionalized segregation has appeared in popular and academic journals.
Dr. Lands is actively engaged in the community. She has been a vital component of multiple community research projects, including Keeping and Creating American Communities, a project that was originally funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities; the Housing Projects, a program that facilitates and fosters research, analysis, and interpretation of metropolitan housing and assesses learning and professional outcomes of undergraduate research in the humanities; and Taking Place, a radio documentary project that examined the history, culture and community of northwest Georgia.
