In late August, five volunteers from Atlanta traveled to the Gulf Coast to document the stories of people living in communities that have been severely impacted by the BP oil spill. We returned with compelling video, photos, and personal narratives that will be showcased in a unique exhibition that explores how the culture and ecosystem along the Coast of the Gulf of Mexico can be preserved in the face of this environmental disaster.

With Georgia Tech's strong commitment to sustainability and renewable energy research, it is imperative that the student body fully understand how connected we all are, and what we can do to prepare for and develop a smarter energy future.

The exhibition will feature a showcase of fine art photography from the expedition, captivating video accounts of Gulf residents, and a roster of inspiring speakers who will delve into the complex issues around economics, ecology, fishing, and oil in this unique region. Students will be able to walk away with a deep understanding of the oil spill, how it affected the livelihoods of people living in the Gulf region, what role we all played in this disaster, and how we can shape the future of energy production.
