Event TONIGHT on Working in Non-Profit Sector

Posted by Admin On 2:36:00 PM
NURU INTERNATIONAL is coming to Tech to talk to students about NURU, and what the organization does. They are also going to talk the possibilities of working in the non-profit sector, and why more and more graduates are choosing that sector as a career path. It should be a short and interesting talk + discussion.

Thursday, 28 January 2010
7:00pm - 7:30pm
Success Center Theater-Clary Theater, 225 North Ave, NW Atlanta, GA

Nuru International was founded by Jake Harriman, a former Special Operations Platoon Commander with the U.S. Marines, and a graduate of Stanford's Business School. After fighting the war on terror around the world, Jake became convinced that the only way to end terrorism is to end extreme poverty. He left the Marines and enrolled at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business to create an organization to end extreme poverty.

Nuru works amongst the rural poor in the developing world. They’re currently working in Kuria, Kenya, and it is from the local language that they got their name: Nuru is a Kiswahili word meaning light. Come out tonight, and learn about tangible ways in which students can be+lead the change to make a positive social impact in the world.
