Living history, in action here @ Tech!

In the spring of 1845, Henry David Thoreau went to Walden pond to begin building the house made famous in the book Walden. In an effort to understand what the project entailed, Dr. Hugh Crawford's (Associate Professor, LCC) Honors Seminar is building the timber-framed portion of the this structure in the College of Architecture courtyard. Using only the tools Thoreau would have used, the have felled trees with axes, squared the timbers with broadaxe and adze, and will cut the joints with bow saws, augers, and chisels. Please stop by when they are working to ask questions, or even lend a hand!

Not only are the students exploring Thoreau and building the timber-framed building, they are making a documentary of the process, so pay them a visit and learn more about what they are doing (you might be on the video)!
