Did you know 2 GT students were nominated for Churchill awards this year? Did you know 2 GT students have Marshall interviews this year? Did you know GT students won Mitchell awards in 2007 and 2008? Did you know 3 GT students have won Gates awards? Did you know 1 GT student was on the USA Today All Star Academic Team this past year?
Come learn how you can compete for national awards. Students who are freshmen through juniors and who have a high GPA are invited to learn about nationally prestigious scholarships.
Gates awards at Cambridge University are open both to US citizens and international students; all other awards require US citizenship.
-Goldwater awards are open to sophomores and juniors who are doing research in science, technology, engineering, and math. Campus deadline Jan. 11.
-Truman awards are open to juniors who are involved in public service now and who plan careers in public service. Campus deadline Dec. 4.
-Udall awards are open to sophomores and juniors who work with the environment and plan careers related to the environment. Campus deadline Jan. 11.
-USA Today College Academic Team awards are open to full-time undergraduates of at least junior standing and who are nominated by their university for outstanding work that extends beyond the classroom. Applicants may not have received a baccalaureate degree prior to December 2009. Campus deadline Dec. 4.
Awards Open to Seniors and Graduate Students (Campus deadlines in September)
-Rhodes, 32 awards for graduate study at Oxford, all fields
-Marshall, 40-45 awards in US for graduate study anywhere in UK, all fields
-Fulbright, 1500 awards in one of 140 countries for research, graduate study, or as an English Teaching Assistant
-Churchill, 2 students can be nominated from Georgia Tech for the 14 US awards in STEM areas for one-year of graduate study at Cambridge
-Gates, approximately 40 awards in US in addition to international awards for 2-3 years of study in any field at Cambridge
-Mitchell, 12 awards in US for one year of graduate study in Ireland, any field
-National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships (national deadline in early November) NSF open to seniors, first-year graduate students, and first-semester second-year graduate students in STEM areas. More than 1600 awards planned for this year. Open to US citizens and permanent residents.
