SLIDER Research Technician III Job Opening

CEISMC is looking for a talented former undergrad who has a background in social science or educational research methods to join CEISMC as a Research Technician III. This is a full time classified staff position that is supported with NSF funds through our Science Learning Integrating Design, Engineering and Robotics (SLIDER) program. The person will become a part of the educational research team, and will be involved with coordinating, processing and analyzing data about middle school student learning and program enactment.

Job Purpose:
Provide professional level support to the NSF-funded Science Learning Integrating Design,
Engineering and Robotics (SLIDER) program in conducting and reporting results of educational research studies associated with SLIDER. Includes coordination of research documents collection of data through surveys and classroom observations, coding of qualitative data, and statistical analysis of data.
Impact & Influence:
This position will interact on a consistent basis with CEISMC research faculty, program directors, co-workers, and K-12 school personnel. It will advise and counsel CEISMC research faculty, program directors and co-workers.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Collecting research data through classroom observations, interviews, surveys, tests, etc.
  • Compiling, organizing, and inputting research data in the form of K-12 student work, audio and videotaped interviews, surveys and test results.
  • Coding qualitative data using software such as NVivo.
  • Conducting statistical analyses of quantitative research data.
  • Participating in experimental design and preparation
  • Participating in preparation of presentations and manuscripts
  • Assisting when needed with SLIDER curriculum development, coordination and implementation
  • Developing and processing IRB forms
  • Performing other related duties as assigned
Education, Specialized Knowledge and Experience:
Degrees required for this job: Bachelor’s degree
Years of experience required for this job: Two years job-related experience
Specialized Skills:
  • Specialized skills required for this job:
  • Working knowledge and experience with the principles and practices of social science research
  • Skill in data organization, management and evaluation
  • Understanding of basic statistics and experience with statistical analysis of data
  • Competence with Microsoft Excel and statistical software (e.g. SPSS)
  • Highly organized with close attention to detail
Specialized skills preferred:
Experience working in a research lab or group, especially working with human subjects
and/or behavioral research.
