Interested in Being a FASET Leader?

Posted by Admin On 11:36:00 AM 0 comments
Are you interested in being a FASET leader? Apply at http://nssp.gatech.edu/content/766/become-a-leader!
FASET is an acronym for "Familiarization and Adaptation to the Surroundings and Environs of Tech," an orientation program for new students and their parents, families, and guests. It is the first step in making a successful transition to Tech. Each freshman FASET Orientation session lasts 2-days, and several sessions are held on dates throughout the summer. Students stay overnight in a residence hall, and parents/guests have the option of arranging a hotel room at a variety of hotels that offer special rates for FASET participants.

During orientation, students will receive academic advisement, register for their first semester courses, and complete other important business. In addition, new students and their parents and guests will hear presentations from various campus services, student organizations, and institute departments on a variety of academic, business and social components. Most importantly, students, parents, and guests will have an opportunity to meet with faculty, staff, administrators, and current students as well as fellow incoming students and guests.

Please see the below and attached for information submitted by departments/majors on major restrictions and course information. This information has been submitted to assist with FASET Library Cluster Registration.

Are you planning on being in Atlanta for the summer? Would you like to make this summer one of the best summers you've ever had? Would you like to make about a hundred great friends, gain an invaluable leadership experience, and serve as a guide for new students?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, APPLY TO BE A FASET LEADER!   We need HTS and Ivan Allen College students in these roles to show them just how cool we are!

Being a FASET Orientation Leader is a great opportunity for any student at Tech! No previous experience is required, and any undergraduate student may apply. You could be one of the 85 students chosen as leaders that share a strong passion for Georgia Tech and want to share it with incoming Wrecks! Leader applications can be found at www.faset.gatech.edu.

To apply, fill out the application, print 3 copies of your application, and hand them in to the FASET Office (Smithgall Student Services (Flag) Building, Suite 141) no later than 4pm on Friday, March 1st.

The information session will detail the role of FASET Cabinet, the responsibilities and requirements, and offer some insight from past Cabinet members. NO PRIOR FASET experience required! Just excellent leadership skills. There is no other leadership role on campus that operates like this one. Experience a small team environment where everyone carries equal weight, and that weight carries the direction of a program for over 6000 people.

Visit the FASET Orientation Web site (http://www.nssp.gatech.edu/faset) for more information, qualifications, and a link to the application. Applications are due by Monday, October 22, 2012 by 4 p.m. to the Office of New Student & Sophomore Programs (Student Services Building, Suite 141). Contact Bethany Naser (bethany.naser@vpss.gatech.edu) with questions.

Are you available on Friday, June 22nd to help out HTS?  New freshmen students will be on campus for FASET, and we need a volunteer who can help with the advising session.  There will be five new HTS majors and one Undecided Ivan Allen College major, all of whom will be starting classes in the late summer session.  You don't need to be an "expert" on HTS or Georgia Tech, just be available to make suggestions and help students understand the registration process.  If you're available on Friday from 11.30 AM - 12.30 PM, please email Dr. D'Unger ASAP, and thanks!

Help HTS @ FASET

Posted by Admin On 2:45:00 PM 0 comments
The summer FASET orientations for incoming freshmen at Georgia Tech are approaching fast: the first is on June 25!   We want, as always, to include current students as much as possible to help us with the Ivan Allen College orientation. We will need your support with presentation, facilitation, and assisting major advisors with registration. New freshmen and their parents are usually very enthusiastic and full of questions!  FASET is a great way to help support and represent your major.

If you are interested in getting involved and representing your school and major, please email me to volunteer at kelsaesser3@gatech.edu. Orientation lasts typically from 9:30AM to 1PM. Please include the days and times that you are available to volunteer and a phone number where you can best be reached. If you expect to help out during the orientations, please make sure you contact me so that we can make duty assignments and assess how much help we have and will need.

Following are the dates for FASET:
June 25, July 12, July 16, July 26, July 30, August 13, August 18

Again, the first orientation will be on June 25. Please email me as soon as possible if you can help out during that day. Thank you for your continued interest in supporting Ivan Allen College!

Thank you,

Kristen Elsaesser
Student Assistant for Admissions and Recruitment
Ivan Allen College

P.S.- I WILL ALSO NEED HELP REPRESENTING HTS AT THE "FASET MARKETPLACE," WHICH IS EACH FASET DAY FROM 1:00 - 4:00 PM.  YOU DON'T NEED TO BE THERE THE ENTIRE TIME, BUT IF YOU COULD DO A 1:00 - 2:30 OR 2:30 - 4:00 SHIFT, THAT WOULD BE GREAT!  ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS BE PRESENT AT THE HTS INFO TABLE IN THE STUDENT CENTER BALLROOM AND SMILE A LOT.  :-)  EMAIL DR. D IF YOU CAN HELP OUT!
