The Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships place recipients in classrooms abroad to assist teachers of English to non-native English-speakers. ETAs help teach English language while serving as a cultural ambassador for U.S. culture. The age and academic level of classroom students varies by country, ranging from kindergarten to university level. Applicants for English Teaching Assistantships can apply to only one country. Each participating country has specific requirements and numbers of awards. Tech application and at-large application deadlines are different. This program does not lead to teacher certification.

Telia Kapteyn, an alumna of New York University (NYU) and former Teach for America corps member, is now teaching English in Malaysia as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant. Her descriptions of her experiences so far will appear in this newsletter as they come.
