What a fascinating topic — the idea that humans have spent centuries trying to capture and represent the sound of nature says something profound about our need to translate feeling into language. Alexandra Hui's focus on birdsong as a cultural and historical subject is the kind of research that reminds us how deeply sensory experience shapes identity.
That bridge between sound, emotion, and self-expression is something I found myself exploring while writing my novel I Feel Like a Woman (إحساسي امرأة) — a psychological journey into the unspoken inner world of a person navigating identity in ways society rarely acknowledges. Much like birdsong being "heard" differently across eras, the way we listen to our own inner voice is shaped by everything around us.
This talk sounds like it will open up conversations far beyond music history — looking forward to it. 🎶📖
