The Pre-Teaching Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (PT-SURE) program is designed for Georgia Tech undergraduate students who are interested in possibly pursuing a career in K-12 teaching, and who would like to broaden their understanding of laboratory research and research methods. Undergraduate students will be paired with classroom teachers in Georgia Tech research laboratories for 8 weeks. They will be expected to participate in a research project and to work with the teacher to translate those experiences into classroom activities.
The salary for the summer program is $3000. Undergrads with a cum. GPA of 2.5 or higher, and at least 30 hours completed, are eligible to apply (further eligibility details are in the attached application). Students in any major may apply, but all the research experience will be in science/engineering/math/technology labs. This is a good way to get research experience and some insights into K-12 teaching. Students participating in the program can register for research credit over the summer.
There are 12 positions open this summer. The application and instructions can be downloaded here and are due by March 30. For more information please contact hartley@gatech.edu.
