This Sunday night, the campus group Mobilizing Opportunities for Volunteer Experience (MOVE) launched its annual Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. Events will take place March 4-8 and include an interactive shantytown exhibit around the Campanile, a panel of speakers and volunteer opportunities.
“The goal of these events is to raise awareness of homelessness, and by doing so, to break down negative stereotypes and misconceptions that students have about the homeless we encounter in Atlanta,” said Lisa Thornsberry, a fourth-year Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering undergraduate and MOVE president. “It’s a call to see these people as real human beings — with feelings and life experiences — and to learn to address the issue by abolishing ignorance.”
