Y. Upton Empowerment Award Nominations DUE 3/30!

Call for Nominations:

All faculty, staff, and/or students are invited to nominate a female student who has had significant impact on the lives of women for the first annual Yvette Upton Empowerment Award. Students may self-nominate.

Award’s Mission:

The award is named in honor of Yvette Upton, founding Director of the Georgia Tech Women’s Resource Center (and former Assistant Dean of Students). The award focuses on the service, support and advocacy Yvette Upton provided to the women of Georgia Tech from January 2000 to December 2009.

Deadline for Submission:

All materials must be mailed to the Women’s Resource Center, 353 Ferst Drive, Ste 131, c/o Colleen Riggle or e-mailed to colleen@gatech.edu and be received by Wednesday, March 30 by 5 p.m. The winner will be recognized during the Up with the White and Gold Ceremony on Monday, April 28, 2011, at 7 p.m. in the Ballroom, Student Center. Nominations must include the nomination form, and answers to the questions listed below. Up to three additional letters of support may be submitted.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR UNDERGRADUATE/GRADUATE STUDENT NOMINEES:


Nominees* must be current Georgia Tech female student in good standing. Applications will be evaluated holistically, some of the other qualifications that the judges will be looking for include:

1. Current full-time, regular Georgia Tech Student in good standing (undergraduate/graduate)
2. Enrolled for at least one year
3. Shows a strong commitment to others
4. Committed to issues of equity (demonstrated through a project or activity)
5. Act as a role model behavior that empowers and inspires others


*Self nomination is acceptable

IN 500 WORDS OR LESS, PLEASE ADDRESS THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:

What specific service has the nominee contributed to the advancement of women at Georgia Tech?
Describe a time the nominee has shown a strong commitment to others.
How has the nominee displayed a commitment to issues of gender or equity?
What makes this nominee unique in her leadership style?  

How has the nominee demonstrated role modeling behavior that empowers and inspires others?
