The British Consulate-General, Atlanta, the United Kingdom’s diplomatic mission covering 6 Southeast states, is offering unpaid internships for Summer/Fall 2010 to work with the Consulate's Science & Innovation team. The S&I team objectives are to report on policy developments, strategy and emerging priorities; to promote the UK's science and technology achievements; and to encourage Science & Technology collaborations between US and UK scientists and strategic partnerships between institutions.  Want more information on this internship?  Click "Read More."

 The Consulate is seeking interns who meet the following requirements:
·      Recent graduates and college students entering their junior or senior year
·      Excellent oral and written communication skills
·      Strong organisational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision
·      Proficient in Microsoft Office (Photoshop and design skills a plus)

The work will include (but not be limited to):
·      reporting on regional strengths in scientific research, innovation and policy (done mainly through internet research and phone interviews)
·      researching and reporting on city and state public and private institutions and their research highlights
·      tracking regional and federal funding streams for science and technology institutions and federal labs
·      laying the framework for future events and programs; helping organise and implement our events (workshops, visits)

Successful candidates will be expected to intern at least 2 days per week, exact date/timing negotiable. While internships are unpaid, course credit may be available for students whose schools award credits for internships. Under US State Department requirements, the Embassy/Consulate may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card holders or A or J1 Visa holders. If you hold a Visa other than an A or J1 Visa you are not currently eligible to work at the Consulate. All successful candidates will be subject to security clearances and background checks
