Call For Proposals For Undergraduate Research Presentations
The Library, the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, and The Tower are co-sponsoring the Spring 2010 Undergraduate Research Kaleidoscope, an evening of research presentations hosted by the Library East Commons, on April 5th, 2010.
We are accepting proposals for presentations by undergraduate students taking part in faculty-advised research. While there are many ways to present research formally and thoroughly at Tech, this event focuses on accessibility and broad appeal: a showcase of big ideas or fascinating details to be pursued by the audience, perhaps on the spot. To that end, we use a presentation format that is constrained and entertaining. Click "Read More" for more details! The deadline for proposals is March 31st.These presentations will be in the Pecha Kucha style, created and popularized by designers working in Tokyo. We'll let the Pecha Kucha organizers speak for themselves: "Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each - giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to show."
This is our third URK and we've been very pleased with how they've worked so far.
Potential presenters will need to send a short proposal to Charlie Bennett (Library) at cb129@mail.gatech.edu. The proposal should include the title of the presentation, a 150-word abstract, the name of the student’s research advisor, and the student’s academic department. The deadline for proposals is March 31st.
You can find more information about the Pecha Kucha style and "Pecha Kucha Night" at www.pecha-kucha.org and you can see examples of Pecha Kucha Atlanta at www.atlantapechakucha.com.
Thank you,
Charlie Bennett (Library), Karen Harwell (UROP), & Chu Yi (The Tower)
