Angelina Long is the winner of this year's Homer Rice Award. The award is made annually to the HTS graduate student who through volunteerism has fostered a sense of community in the School of History, Technology, and Society as well as broader communities.
Angel Long has served as graduate representative, and also as a mentor and intellectual presence for the entire graduate community. To build that community she organized events both in school (the graduate forum) and at home. She was also a co-organizer of a major intellectual event put on by graduate students for graduate students: The Southern History of Science and Technology (HoST) conference. This event was co-organized with Marisa Benson at Emory. Angel and Marisa selected 35 papers from those submitted, and provided all the associated intellectual and local arrangements for a two day meeting held on the campuses of both Tech and Emory.
Recently Angel has further set an outstanding example by being extremely proactive in seeking external funding to complete her PhD. She currently has three applications for grants in the pipeline. Congrats to Angel for all her accomplishments!
