Date(s): Ongoing volunteer opportunity for the 2013-2014 school year
Time(s): 3 - 4:30 pm Mondays thru Thursdays; 7:30 - 8:45 am Fridays
What volunteers will do? Volunteers will tutor 1-4 students at a time in specific subject areas and/or general study skills
Skills needed: Volunteers may choose which academic subjects they are most comfortable tutoring. We have a need for strong math and science tutors, but also welcome those for history, English, and foreign language (Spanish, French or Latin). Experience and/or interest in teaching is helpful but not necessary.
Training provided: Volunteers will undergo a brief, 30-minute training before starting as a tutor. School personnel will provide additional resources and training as needed throughout the school year. All tutors are required to pass a background check and drug screening conducted at the expense of the school.
Numbers of hours/days per week: Volunteers are asked to commit at least 1.5 hours per week. The day of the week is dependent upon the tutor's schedule and tutors are not expected to volunteers during school vacations.
Length of commitment: Volunteers are asked to commit to tutoring for at least 1 semester.
Transportation needed: Tutors need to provide their own transportation to and from the school.
Compensation: None; this is a volunteer opportunity. If tutors are interested in the teaching profession, they can be connected with a teacher on campus and also conduct classroom observations or provide additional teacher support for added experience in education.
